Podcast 196: Faroe Islands Whale Watch

This week, we talk to the people behind Faroe Islands Whale Watch. They spent the summer observing marine mammals in Faroese waters. We talk to them about their observations, and whether there is some other agenda behind their project.

Then we check in on four sperm whales that got stranded in Faroese waters. Two have died, but two others are still alive, but not completely out of danger yet. Related: here's the disgusting video that has gone viral around the world. It's a sperm whale blowing up in the Faroe Islands.

Podcast 195: Sheep to the Shear

This week, we walk out onto a hillside and watch people shearing sheep. Really that's about it, but there's still something fun and beautiful about it. There are still communities where the families go up into the hills, drive them into pens, then shear them my hand. We stumbled upon this scene while taking the scenic route somewhere else, and we just had to pull over and check it out. in addition to our audio podcast, we've got a video above that captures some of the scene that afternoon.

As always, you can listen on iTunes, on our media player at the top of the page, and on Stitcher Smart Radio.

Also, as a bonus this week, we've got a short story about the Portland Timbers produced by the host of this podcast, Matthew Workman. You can hear more stuff like it on the Portland Radio Project at www.prp.fm.

We'll talk about how Danes view the Faroese, and Skaale will make an argument in favor of Faroese membership in the EU.

Then we'll take a tour of Torshavn with the CEO of Atlantic Airways.
