He's an artist born in America who now lives in the Faroe Islands. Cole has just completed a collection of sculptures inspired by the stories and lives of immigrants to the Faroe Islands.

We'll talk about the contributions immigrants have to the Faroe Islands, and whether Cole considers himself an immigrant.

Cole's Transplanted collection has been commemorated on a series of Faroese stamps (pictured above) and posters. They are available for purchase on the Posta website.

As always, you can listen on the media player at the bottom of this post, on most every podcast app that exists, and Spotify. First, it's a trip to a giant mailbox (pictured above, left). Many years ago, this podcast slagged off this mailbox on account of the fact that it's not an actual mailbox you can deposit mail into.

This prompted a sternly worded email from listener Jogvan Thompsen (pictured above, right), who said we had gotten our story wrong. He also had some notes on other things other podcasts got wrong. In response, I met up with Jogvan the next time I was in the Faroe Islands and he set the record straight. As part of that show, I had wanted to personally apologize to the mailbox ,but that never really happened. But on this podcast, that wrong has been righted. We hear about the history of the mailbox, and why you can't put mail in it anymore. And we apologize.

Then we remember a ferry crossing, and a moment on song on the boat and how it makes us yearn for a time where we can travel again and reconnect with people and places we love.

We took the trip as part of a tour offered by a company now known as Tora Tourist.

As always, you can listen everywhere. We're everywhere. It's amazing you haven't heard the episode already. So break out whatever you listen to podcasts on and do your thing. If you want, you can listen on the media player at the bottom of this post, or you can download the show directly here.

We'll talk to Runi about how he got such a vast collection and what he loves about it. We'll also hear about the prospect of a Faroese whiskey. If you turned off your microphone, organizers would admit they thought they'd get 1,000 people to attend, but 500 would also be a historic gathering.

Five THOUSAND people showed up, one tenth the population of the entire country, and history was made. This week, we talk to Guðrið Højgaard, who is the Director of Visit Faroe Islands. These are strange times for people who promote tourism. Borders are closed, people are in lockdown, and almost all flights to and from the Faroe Islands have been cancelled.

But while things were shutting down, Højgaard and her team came up with Remote Tourism. We'll talk about how Visit Faroe Islands came up with this unique campaign, and the prospects for tourism moving forward.

Then we'll stand in front of a hotel under construction.

On this podcast, we talk to SAKARIS. SAKARIS is a Faroese composer, producer, and musician living in Iceland. For the past two months, he's been going into the studio and allowing people to watch as he tries to create a song. Sometimes it goes well. Other times... well...

But whatever the result, it's a fascinating watch. We'll talk to Sakaris about the thrills and perils of creating with an audience watching, and how deadlines and constraints can make for better art.

Then we'll go to a forgotten village and search for some history.

You can listen on your favorite podcast platform, or your least favorite, it really doesn't matter to us. On this week's podcast, we get an update on the COVID-19 infection numbers in the Faroe Islands and listen to a coronavirus-themed opera. (You can watch that opera here.) For more information about the novel coronavirus in the Faroes, please visit the official government site, the state broadcaster, or Local.fo.

Then we explore "remote tourism." While the Faroe Islands is currently closed to tourists, you can still explore them remotely. For a limited time, Visit Faroe Islands will allow you to take a tour of Faroese villages, and control the tour guide in real time. Just to be clear, this isn't a simulation, it's a real live person, taking directions from people in real time. To learn more about this intriguing way to see the Faroes, check out Visit Faroe Islands' Remote Tourism site.

But wait, there's more! We spend the third segment of our show talking to Elin Brimheim Heinesen about life under lockdown in the Faroe Islands. And then she sends us off with a song.
Then we sit on a beach on Sandoy and listen as the waves break and drain through the stones. This is one of our favorite pieces of field sound we've recorded in the Faroes. Home and Away is a show that documents the life of foreigners in the Faroe Islands. On each show, host Stella Zachariassen, a Faroese woman of Sri Lankan descent, talks to someone who immigrated to the Faroes and asks what their lives were like in their country of origin, and how they've adapted to life on the islands. We'll be featuring episodes of Home and Away in the Faroe Islands Podcast feed for the next few months.

On this first episode, Stella talks to Ved Nagersheth from Mauritius. We hope you enjoy these programs. As always, you can listen on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, or wherever you listen to podcasts. You can also download the show directly here or listen on the media player at the bottom of this post.
This week's podcast features an interview with Sandra Brunke, she's a woman from Germany who helps volleyball players from around the world find placement at colleges in places like the USA and Canada. She was interviewed by Oli Samuelsen on FM 1.

We also hear an extremely short interview with our friend Darius Lewis after KI Klaksvik won the top league in Faroese football (soccer).

Then we walk through a confusing set of woods that can confound a foreigner, like the host of this podcast, but are actually quite common in the Faroes.
On this podcast, we talk to singer/songwriter Dan Olsen about how he went from football (soccer) to music and then from the Faroes to Austrailia to London. We'll also her a sample of his new song, "Still Be Gone." If you'd like to hear the whole tune, you can listen on the video at the top of the page.

Then, in honor of Halloween, we revisit the spooky tunnels north of Klaksvik, do some beatboxing, and... maybe... free some troubled spirits?
This week, we catch up with Darius Lewis, the American striker playing for KI Klaksvik. When we last spoke in January, Lewis was preparing to move from his home in Florida to the Faroe Islands. Now that he's had a few months to settle in, we ask what it's like to play football (soccer) so far from home and how life in the Faroes is treating him.

After that, we stand underneath the newest traffic light in the Faroe Islands.

At the end of the interview, we mention a Dutch TV story about Darius. You can find that story here.

We'll also get an update on our gofundme campaign. We're about 1/3 of the way to our goal. That's a good start, but there's plenty of room for you to help. On this episode, we look at the changes made at the G! Festival over the past several years. They've opened new stages, changed concessions, found an ingenious way to keep the beach clean, and continued to deliver cutting-edge music from the Faroe Islands and around the world.

We'll hear music from KATA, Teitur, and Kanska. Then we preview some acts that have already been announced for the 2019 G! Festival, which kicks off next month.
We're headed back to the Faroe Islands to record more episodes of this podcast, and we need just a little help from you. This week, we talk about why some of the Faroe Islands' biggest tourist attractions were closed last weekend, and why 100 volunteers thought the best way to spend a vacation was to do free manual labor. We'll also talk about the threat of overtourism and how the Faroes is trying to balance tourism with preservation.

Then we visit a tiny village that nobody ever visits.

This week, we sample the sounds from Elin Brimheim Heinesen's 60th birthday party. It was a wonderful night where everyone was asked to bring a dish to pass, or a song. A lot of people brought songs. We'll listen to the music, sing a little ourselves, and then dance until dawn... literally. The show is basically a love note to a woman who is a dear friend, and a champion of the podcast back in the days when we only had one episode and even fewer listeners.

Lots of links for this show. If you want to buy Elin's latest album, you can find it at the Tutl store and on iTunes.

If you'd like to see a great photo album from the night, you can find that here.
