Podcast 86: Faroese in New Hampshire

This week, we talk to Agnes Mortensen, a Faroese woman studying at the University of New Hampshire. We talk about the differences between America and the Faroe Islands (yes, some differences do exist) and how a woman a small country copes with living in somewhat small American town. Then we sit on a windy hillside in Argir (pictured above).

Podcast 85: The Environment

This week, we talk to Janus Hansen about the Faroese landscape and environment and attempt to answer the following question: are those windswept valleys really supposed to be treeless?

Then we travel to a windy football pitch on Suduroy (pictured above) and try to score some goals. (Mostly unsuccessfully )

Podcast 84: Oil and Culture

This week we talk about oil, specifically how oil might affect Faroese culture if ever it was discovered off the shores of the Faroes (pictured above). Our good friend Birgir Kruse helps us sort out the issues. Then, we visit the King's Monument in Torshavn (not pictured above) and stare into the fog.

Who Was That Guy?

We've gotten several questions from people who listened to yesterday's story on The Story with Dick Gordon about the music contained in that story.

It's from none other than Stanley Samuelsen, who was a guest on our show about a year ago and did an interview and live performance. It is one of the best shows we've ever done and well worth another listen. Indeed, the song you heard on the radio Monday was actually an except of the live performance he did for us.

So click on the link below if you want to learn more about Stanley and hear the full performance.

Podcast 83: A Journey to the North

This week, we travel to Viðareiði, the most northerly village in the Faroe Islands (pictured above). We visit hoping to learn more about the kind of people willing to live in a remote village at the end of the road. And we use the village's many fine stone walls (pictured below) to brace ourselves from the driving wind and rain.
